“Maybe we don’t need a burning bush anymore?...” this artwork and statement by Scott Erickson spoke to my experience. Growing up in church from 7 years old I got used to the idea of God speaking and acting at certain locations, at certain events, with certain music…etc even though I was part of a faith community that professed God was everywhere. I also got used to the idea of waiting for a ‘sign’ for any significant decision. But that isn’t how it works…
The whole statement with the artwork reads:
“Maybe we don’t need a burning bush anymore?...As in some Outside flame to validate the calling you know you’re supposed to say yes to. Maybe what we need to do is honour the sacred flame that has been burning inside your very being. The good news is that the kingdom of heaven is not here or there as in some vacation destination to visit… but it’s being built within your very midst. Remove your sandals and recognise that what is Holy is not a plot of earth in the desert somewhere, but the very interior ground of Being from which you stand. What is already burning in you? What is already calling to you? What identity have you ignored for so long that you forgot who you even were? Maybe the most sacred response today is to accept its invitation. To listen to the Voice. Maybe, today is the beginning of your Exodus.” (Scott Erickson https://scottericksonartshop.com/)
1 Corinthians 3:16 (NIV-UK):
“16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives among you?”
